Tank vs. Tankless Water Heaters for Idaho Homes
How the two compare for Treasure Valley homes, including hard water and cold winters.
PLUMBING IN STAR, ID
On the Ada–Canyon county line, Star homeowners can get connected with a local plumber in one call.
Star sits on the line between Ada and Canyon Counties, west of Eagle and northeast of Caldwell, with the Boise River to the south. It has gone from a small town to one of the valley's fastest-growing cities in a short time, so much of its housing is brand-new, alongside farmhouses and acreage homes that predate the boom. New homes often come with tankless water heaters, PEX plumbing and irrigation systems, and with them the first rounds of warranty-era fixes and hard-water maintenance. Rural properties add wells and septic. Call (208) 603-5209 to get connected with an independent plumber who serves Star.

Most Star homes are newer construction, which usually means PEX supply lines, PVC drains and, increasingly, tankless water heaters. That's a solid starting point, but tankless units need regular flushing to handle the valley's hard water, and builder-grade faucets, toilet fill valves and shutoffs often need replacing within the first decade. Outside the subdivisions, older farmhouses and acreage homes may have private wells, pressure tanks and septic systems, plus long buried lines that are vulnerable when temperatures drop well below freezing.
Shut off the main water valve right away, open a low faucet to drain the lines, and turn off power to wet areas if you can safely reach the panel. Then call (208) 603-5209 to get connected with a local plumber.
